Relationship with Darkness

Relationship with Darkness

Relationship with Darkness – A reflection.

We’ve been touching upon our relationship with darkness this entire series. Let’s stop rejecting darkness. Why are we so scared of the dark? The original state of the universe is dark. It is the ultimate creator. Darkness gives way to creation, to possibilities. During ‘dark’ times, life gives us no other option but to reassess, re-build and re-create a new reality from what’s around and messy. We are all ugly in a way. We are all imperfect. We are all dark as much as we are light. We think of darkness as an absence, but what if darkness is already splendid and helpful?

We need the shadow.

For example, large trees create canopies of darkness where fundamental activity and life produces to maintain themselves alive. They take ‘vitamin D’ up and down their branches, create freshness, and store the humidity necessary for life and growth. If we didn’t have tree canopies creating microclimates, our cities would be desertic. Too much light burns and is hurtful.

Cultivating darkness is healthy.

Darkness is necessary for soil health. Tree canopies aid in the sustenance of diverse species essential to replenishing soil nutrients and density and managing Ph Levels. Certainly, the trees and their canopies hinder visibility, which can be scary. Yet, they are indispensable for soil and ecosystem health.

Darkness protects us.

Those canopies of darkness also protect us from other forces like wind. Too much air is also harmful. People living in high-risk hurricane zones know about that. The same is true for the darkness at the bottom of our oceans. It protects a sensitive ecosystem balance that benefits all life, wherever we are. Darkness is fundamental and necessary in the creation and the environment because vital functions we are unaware of happen inside this darkness.

Of course, we should plant, protect, and stop cutting trees in our environment. In addition, to projecting our oceans and water bodies. However, my point is that essential processes happen in the dark. The unknown is necessary, and we must respect it when it touches our life. In other words, darkness is a womb. A place where life develops and begins.
Let’s bring justice to the dark and Embracce the unknown.
Let’s reassess our relationship with the dark.
Let’s love our darkness.
We must undertake the darkness to find the next day.
