Relationship With Time – A reflection
Our relationship with time is a very interesting one. It becomes more intricate as we grow older. When we are kids, five minutes are genuine eternity. The possibilities are endless, fun, and imagination is at our disposal. Contrarily, a full day can feel like 5 minutes as we grow older and our responsibilities overflow our days and schedules. Age is supposed to be proof of wisdom and experience. However, to some, it can sound like a punishment.
We think time
In a sense, we don’t feel time. We think it. The days seem to pass by one at a time. Suddenly, years have gone by. Therefore, time is a true mystery. It is the addition and subtraction of moments of memory. Hence, episodes of strong emotion can freeze time. Likewise, we can freeze our present when considering the past and alternatives. And yet, doing nothing can be a great use of time.
Befriending time
Befriending time is befriending patience. We would love to control time, but time is uncontrollable. We all live at its mercy and fortune. Every so often, we want life to go according to our plans. Life’s response: It will only happen when it is ready. We can’t force time to move by our clock, but we can push ourselves to care about the clock intentionally.
Cultivating time
Cultivating our relationship with time can prove to become an accurate mental health indicator. If our days are going by too slowly, we might need to begin asking some questions. On the other hand, if our days are going by quicker than comfortably. We might want to re-evaluate our attention and values to avoid missing out on what is important to us.
Our most important resource
Time is our most significant resource. We should respect, cherish, and honour our time and other people’s time – individual and collective time. People choose to spend time with us when they could use it in a million different ways, and vice-versa.
At Embracce, we believe that some of the best things in life take time and patience.
Amen to time!
