Relationship with Ourselves
Relationship with Ourselves – A reflection
First, we will honour our relationship with ourselves.
How do we do that? Let’s go through why we should honour our relationship with ourselves first.
Why should we honour our relationship with ourselves?
We honour our relationship with ourselves because the key to life is us. All we know is what we think, sense, feel, and experience. All we truly own is our life, bodies, and minds. We are the vehicle to life, and the state of that vehicle impacts the journey; the way we perceive life. Hence, our perceptions direct our behaviours, how we create and influence our realities and, to an extent, the realities of others. The only outcomes we can truly control are ours. We can control our choices, thoughts, and behaviours. Sometimes ‘controlling’ life is as complicated as ‘controlling’ ourselves. The rest falls under a never-ending set of circumstances and variables we have no control over most of the time.
By taking care of ourselves meaningfully, we allow for better circumstances that lead to better outcomes and the flexibility to adapt to uncontrollable situations. Therefore, caring for ourselves enables us to create our existence and experience meaningfully. We are constantly creating and shaping our realities, whether we know it or not. But we only sometimes do it meaningfully. The truth is that we all have extraordinary lives in many ways. We have so much value in modern life – what we genuinely seek is meaning.
Once again, the key to life is us. Human beings are meaning-makers. That’s our specialty. We can easily create meaning in our lives. However, meaning must come from the source; that source is you. That is why we honour our relationship with ourselves first and foremost. The source of meaning lives in us and moves through us.
How do we honour our relationship with ourselves?
We embracce ourselves. We embracce our light and darkness, the beauty and the ugly – every age, stage, and circumstance. Thus, only in darkness can you see the light. Therefore, darkness is the foundation of light; the things and experiences you don’t like or struggle with provide the background for your light, virtues, qualities, and uniqueness.
Let’s embracce ourselves (yes, wrap your arms around yourself right now and give yourself a big hug). Forgive, thank, and love yourself. For what was, has been, is and will be. Tell yourself that no matter what, you will stay committed, love, Embracce, and pick yourself up again.
Love yourself unconditionally.
Love lives within you. Any love you will ever feel will come from within you.
From now on, prioritize your health and your needs. If you prioritize unconditional self-love, you will soon find or at least get sound clues to your deep needs. And I sense that our needs are surprisingly simple.
There is a myriad of ways you can take care of yourself. However, this exercise aims to prioritize connecting with yourself and loving yourself unconditionally, as this lays the ground for your life experience and the rest of your relationships.
