Community Interdependency

Community Interdependency

  • How can I balance psychological, physical, and social factors to improve my quality of life and contribute to positive social outcomes in my communities?
  • How do an individual’s history and systemic inequalities affect their ability to balance personal factors and community assets?

When we improve personal wellness, we can strengthen our communities. Well-supported communities can provide various resources to enhance our personal lives. Various factors, including time and other influences, influence this dynamic process.

To improve our quality of life, we need to balance psychological factors involving emotional and cognitive regulation, physical and functioning factors enabling us to feel good and function effectively, and social relationships involving family, peer, and social relationships, including community support and engagement.

Healthy communities have a range of assets, such as high-quality physical spaces to gather, financial stability, access to natural environments, diverse and inclusive social relationships, and beneficial human contributions. However, balancing personal factors and community assets varies depending on individual and community history and systemic inequalities.

On a personal level, we can be active or passive agents; often, we are both. However, individuals must be aware of the social value of communities and be willing to contribute resources and effort to achieve positive social outcomes. We must be engaged in giving and taking dynamics.
